Early Career and BreakthroughMetin Oktay was born in 1936 in İzmir, Turkey.
He began his football career with local amateur club Damlacık in 1952. The following year, he joined the youth team of Ünyon Mensucat, where he made his debut for the Turkish youth national team and competed in the FIFA World Youth Championship in Germany.
Rise to Stardom at Galatasaray
After the world championship, Oktay transferred to İzmirspor in 1954.
He quickly established himself as a prolific goalscorer, becoming the top scorer of the İzmir League with 17 goals in 18 matches.
